Muscle Car in America

The manufactures that design this type of car meant this car to be a car that was used for straight line speed. Most of the cars that fall into this category were building and sold in small number only. Why? This is because this type of car were meant to be a bait, something that the manufactures use to attract people attention to come and see the car in the showroom, where hopefully people will end up buying a more mundane model. For whatever reason that the manufactures build this type of car, there are car enthusiasts out there that fall in love with it.

The Beginning of Muscle Car

The history of this type of car runs back to 1949. The 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 was considered as the first muscle car that was ever built. This car has succeeded to attract people with its speed and power. This is also the first car that uses the high compression overhead valve V8 engine in a smaller and lighter body car. Later, every single car that fall into this category used the V8 engine.

Although the history of this car genre already started in 1949 with the Oldsmobile Rocket 88, the popularity of this genre ran from around 1965 to 1970. On those years, many cars were produced as part of this genre. Some examples of the most famous car that fall into this category are Hudson Hornet, 1955 Chrysler C-300 and 1957 Rambler Rebel Sedan.

In the rising cost and weight, higher gas price and also soaring insurance cost, comes the secondary trend of this genre that has the same high performance engine but with more affordable cost. The 1970 Plymouth GTX 440 and the 1970 Rebel Machine is the example of it. Both cars are building not only for drag racing but also for normal street use with more affordable price.

Due the pressure of high gas prices and everything else, the industry of muscle car start to collapse and although there are still one of two manufactures that produce it, the time of these car genre has come to an end and people in this day must be satisfied with used car only.
